What this place is

Sari Gumitir Bali isn't a hotel, and it isn't just a café. It's a landscaped nature compound in the village of Mengesta, where a restaurant, a barbecue pavilion, a swimming pool, camping grounds and a villa are all linked by stone footpaths along a real mountain stream.

The compound is built on a slope that steps down toward the river, in the same terraced spirit as Tabanan's famous subak rice fields nearby. Every path is laid in stone and timber that follow the natural contour of the land rather than flattening it. Come for the day — breakfast, a swim, a barbecue — or stay the night in a tent or a villa, and add trekking, cycling or a group gathering to the visit.

Entrance

Arrival and first steps

The grounds begin right off Jl. Batukaru: a stone-paved entrance, room to park cars and bikes, and greenery from the very first step. The sign at the gate says it plainly — Eat, Camp, Villa, Event — and sets the tone for the whole walk ahead.

Transit

Footpaths through the garden

Every path is laid in stone slabs set straight into the lawn, so walking stays easy even after rain. The route winds through croton, fern and banana groves, following the site's natural contour rather than cutting straight lines through it.

The grounds

Rice terraces around the compound

The property borders genuine rice fields: tiers planted with marigolds step down toward the forest at the foot of Gunung Batukaru — the same terraced landscape Tabanan is known for. A brick footpath runs alongside for an easy stroll.

Forest crossing

Where the garden meets the woods

Past the terraces, the path dips toward a stand of bamboo and old trees leaning over the stream — a shaded, cooler pocket of the walk. A timber footbridge with steady railings carries you across to the far side of the garden.

A view worth pausing for

A stone seat above the valley

Partway along the route, a small stone terrace with carved seats opens onto the whole valley — banana groves, rice terraces and jungle ridgeline stretching out below. Easy to miss if you're not looking, and worth the pause if you are.

The relax zone

A pool tucked into the garden

The pool sits behind foliage and flowering shrubs — barely visible from the paths, which gives it a private feel even when the compound is at full capacity. Sun umbrellas and open-air pavilions sit close by.

Shared spaces

The barbecue pavilion

A brick pavilion, draped in trailing vines, is built for barbecue nights and shared meals for 8–10 people, with stone-topped tables and benches under a bamboo roof.

Riverside lounge

A quieter spot to sit by the water

A separate lounge deck, paved in triangular stone, sits right at the river's edge with a round stone table and stools — a good place to slow down before or after a meal.

The natural artery

The river along the property line

A real mountain stream runs along the edge of the grounds, tumbling over boulders and small rapids. Stone steps lead down to the water — a good spot to sit, listen to the current, or cool off in the shade of the bamboo.
